On Saturday, May 26, 2018, our sister was peacefully called to her heavenly home.
Debra Denise Dumas Lemelle was born on Dec. 23, 1956, in Lake Charles, La., to the late Andrew Joseph Dumas Sr. and Gloria Dean Lewis Dumas.
Debra was a 1975 graduate of Washington High School and a 1979 graduate of Southern University, where she received a B.S. Degree in Business Management with a minor in Business Administration. She began her career in Los Angeles, Calif., where she worked for Hughes Aircraft Corporation. Debra returned home to Lake Charles after becoming ill. Her physical health began to deteriorate over the years and Debra succumbed to her long, hard fought illness on May 26, 2018. Debra was baptized into the catholic faith and also received the sacraments of the Catholic faith. She was a member of Saint Margaret Catholic Church. Debra enjoyed family gatherings, hobbies, Bingo, crochet and crafting.
She was loved by many and had such a giving spirit, especially of her time and talent to first her younger siblings in her youth as well as the youth in the community where she grew up.
Debra is survived by her son, Curtis Paul Lemelle of Lake Charles, La.; sisters, Linda Lewis of Long Beach, Calif., Gloria Renee Tousand (Donnie) of Bayton, Texas, Felicia Dumas Chretien (Bobby) of Iowa, La., Marcia Yvette Dumas of San Francisco, Calif.; brothers, Thomas Lewis Dumas, David (Yolanda) Dumans, and Darrell (Debbie) Dumas, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandchildren, Triston, Brooklyn and Carmen Lemelle of Lake Charles, La.; and many
wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Andrew Joseph Dumas Jr.; and a special aunt, Geraldine Brooks.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. in Fondel Memorial Chapel. Funeral will follow Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel.
