January 4, 1950 - December 20, 2018
Sis. Josephine Guillory was born Josephine McCrea in Elton, LA on January 4, 1950 to Joe McCrea and Louise Woods-McCrea. She was one of nine daughters and six sons.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Junius Joseph Guillory of Elton, LA on July 15, 1971. The two parented Shelia Gail and Bryant Lee. Later in May 1997, they became the adoptive parents to Robert Lee Guillory.
Josephine was baptized at an early age in Elton and was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith. In her childhood, she was a member of Golden Chain Baptist Church.
Later, she became a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a member of the Sunday School, the Mission Society, the Deaconess Board, the Senior Choir, and the Usher Dept. She served tirelessly in cooking for many church sales, fellowship meals, and funeral luncheons. Sis. Guillory rendered service to her church and to its members in whatever capacity needed.
Recently, she had become a member of Faith Deliverance Temple, but her failing health prevented her from attending church regularly. Nevertheless, she was looking forward to the day she could return to worship with her church family and share her testimony.
By profession, Josephine was employed as a dietary aid at Allen Parish Hospital. She was also employed as a certified nurse’s aid at Jennings Guest House. She also served as a caretaker at Thirteenth Street in Oberlin, LA. She was also a caretaker for Leading Healthcare of Lake Charles, LA. She also spent many years as a foster parent caring for children who needed a loving, Christian environment to call home. It is obvious that the majority of her life was spent caring for others, which is a great testament to how much serving others was her language of love. She definitely had a heart and a love for servitude.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and the following siblings; Bessie Robinson, Rose Mae Frank, Lonell McCrea, Mary Lewis, Geraldine Fontenot, Beatrice Cooper, Shirley McCrea Sr., Joe McCrea Jr., George McCrea Sr., and Artis McCrea Sr.
She leaves to mourn her cherished memories; her children, Shelia (Claus) Dominick and Bryant McCrea of Elton, LA, and Robert Guillory of Pineville, LA. She is survived by 2 sisters, Evelyn McCrea and Delores McCrea of Elton, LA; two brothers, Sherman McCrea Sr. of Houston, TX and Willie McCrea Sr. of Lubbock, TX; seven grandchildren: Brian (Joey) McCrea, Allison McCrea, Jade Salter, Omar McCrea, Madison McCrea, and Tyler McCrea; and one special grandson, Markquise Williams; three godchildren: Patrick Landry, Sr., April McCrea-Hubbit, and Manuel Sam III, nine great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
