Karen Renee Simien Gates passed away unexpectedly, at the age of 47 on Saturday, April 28th, 2018 in her home.
Karen Renee was the third child born to Donald James Simien and Eavy Mae Simien. She was born on September 12th, 1970 in Houston Texas. Karen was a happy child and grew into the loving woman she will always be remembered as. Karen resided in Lake Charles for the past 43 years. During this time, Karen was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Ashanti Eavy Simien and Ariel Janee Terry, whom she loved very much. Karen will always be remembered for her giving heart, and loving disposition. Karen had a laugh that was unmistakable and her giving spirit made her special to so many family and friends. She unselfishly took care of others and often put their needs before her own. This is how her family and friends will forever remember their beloved, Karen Simien Gates.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her parents, Donald Simien and Eavy Simien. One sister, Tammie Simien and one brother, Jessie James Simien, all of Lake Charles, La. One half brother, Donald James Simien of Austin, TX. Her daughters, Ashanti Eavy Simien of Wilmington, NC and Ariel Janee Terry of Lake Charles, LA. Her niece, Jasmine Carter (Lake Charles), whom she raised as her own. Three nieces, Shauna Simien, Daneisha Davis-Harger (Jacob Harger), Terri Davis-Williams (Charlie Williams IV) and one nephew Robert Davis all of Lake Charles, LA. Uncles, Henry Ellis Jr., Billy Ray Ellis both of Lake Charles, LA and Reverend Leron Comeaux (Sandra) of Houston, TX. She also leaves behind one godson, Caden Keith Williams. Also left to cherish her memory are a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and close friends, including her best friend, Angela Fredrick of Lake Charles, LA.
Karen was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Henry Jessie Ellis and Susie Brown Ellis. Also, her paternal grandparents, Lewis Simien and Coritha Cormier.
Karen Renee Simien Gates’ homegoing service will be held, Saturday, May 5th, 2018 at Word of Hope Family Worship Center in Lake Charles, La with Pastor Charlie Williams III officiating. Visitation is from 2 -3 p.m. with the service beginning at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Combre Memorial Park, under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel.
