Malika Bennett Glands, 42, passed away peacefully at her residence. Malika was born July 22, 1976 to Delma and Christine Bennett. Malika was a native of Mossville, Louisiana. She was baptized at an early age and was a member of Sharon Chapel Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Lake Charles, LA.


Malika was a 1995 graduate of Sulphur High School, where she was a star basketball athlete. She attended Grambling State University and has a degree in Child Development.


She was affectionately known as the, "life of the party" everywhere she went. Malika touched so many lives with her gift of humor. The scripture Matthew 25:40 says, “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” When most people would turn their back or look down on those less fortunate Malika wouldn’t, she saw the good in them. Malika also loved spending time with her SIHLE sisters.

Malika is survived by her husband, Kevin Glands of Lake Charles, LA.; parents, Delma and Christine Bennett of Lake Charles, LA; sister, DeAngela (Deon) Edmonds of Chicago, IL.brothers; Delmar (Jeanette) Bennett of Bastrop, Texas and Daniel (Theresa) Bennett of Moss Bluff, LA; mother-in- law, Irma Glands of Jonesboro, LA; sister-in-law, Latisha Glands; brothers-in-law, LaRico Glands; aunts, Debra Comeaux, Hattie (Johnny) Buckley, Tuwana (Curl) Alfred, Melissa (Patrick) Allison, Mary Washington, and Sandra Glands, Rosaland (Randy) Kemp; uncles, Damon (Stacy) Dellafosse and Patrick Dellafosse (Darsena), Lee Glands, Jr., James (Sylvia) Pennix; nephews, “her DJs’”, Delmar Bennett, Jr., Deon Edmonds, Jr. and Tylan “Ti-land “Johnson; nieces, Symone Glands, “the twins”, Alexis and Alycea Hall, Sophia Christine Bennett “Baby daughter”, and a host of cousins.


Malika was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Hardin and Mable Dellafosse;paternal grandparents, Louise and Leroy Bennett; uncles, Otis, Mack, Donald, and Anthony "Peanut" Dellafosse; aunt, Glinda "Chi Chi" Bridgeman, Penny Bennett; and four cousins, Charles Bridgeman Jr., Jonathan Buckley, Damien Comeaux, and Patrick Harris.


Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at True Light Baptist Church, located 1518 Gertsner Memorial Dr; Lake Charles, Louisiana 70601, Rev Dr Alvin J Noel, Pastor. Pastor Helvis Moody will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the church. Burial will be in Miracle Deliverance Church Cemetery under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel.
