Melvin George “Dick” Davis, 64 was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on August 9, 1954 to Vivian Varnado Moore and the late Willie Davis, Jr. both of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Melvin attended W.O. Boston High School and graduated with the class of 1974. Melvin worked at Firestone Polymers for 31 plus years as an Operator. He was a member of Christian Baptist Church where he grew up and accepted Christ at an early age.


Melvin enjoyed cooking and was an amazing chef. Melvin also had a love like no other for football and basketball. Melvin has a special way of keeping his family and friends interested in the scores. He also enjoyed being a part of the Gamblers Softball organization for several years and loved to travel.


Melvin had a huge heart and loved everyone he met. Although he had no biological children he loved and took on his nieces and nephews as his very own. He enjoyed nothing more than seeing his family enjoying and being happy. Family meant the world to him.


Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Willie Davis, Jr., and James Oliver Moore; his brother in law, Dwight Boatner; one infant sister, Sadie Mae Davis; Grandparents, Alberta Bryant, Sadie West, and Payton West.


Melvin is survived by his mother Vivan More; brothers Donald D. Davis, Sr. (Surrona), Terry D. Davis, Otis J. Moore, and Kenneth Kelly (Pearlene); sisters Veronica “Ronnie” Plumbar and Debra Boatner; and the love of his life , his loving companion Johnie Boone Syas; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.


His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 13, 2018 in Christian Baptist Church, located 202 N. Franklin St., Lake Charles, LA. Burial will take place in Combre Memorial Park following the service. Visitation will be held at Christian Baptist Church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
